Encaustic Image Transfers & Collage

Encaustic Image Transfers & Collage

This workshop explores how to embed and transfer images into encaustic, and how the medium can be used for collage and mixed media. Encaustic is a wonderful way to add depth, texture, and a sense of discovery to photographs and found imagery.

Over the three-hour session, I’ll explain and demonstrate image transfer techniques, along with a range of materials that can be successfully embedded into wax. You’ll then have time to work on your own piece, experimenting with the techniques and building confidence through hands-on practice. This workshop is suitable for beginners as well as artists looking to expand their encaustic practice.

Basic materials are provided. Participants are welcome to bring along personal materials to incorporate into their work. If you’re unsure about suitability, feel free to reach out beforehand — I’m very happy to discuss ideas and possibilities.

Optional materials to bring along:

  • Fabric, lace, thread or string

  • Dried botanicals

  • Your own images (printed on matte paper), maps, sheet music, tickets

  • Stamps

  • Feathers
