Reclaimed Exhibition
Ellenbrook Arts HQ
11th July - 3 August 2025
Welcome to my digital catalogue for Reclaimed. Below I share some of the stories behind each piece as well as a little behind the scenes information of bringing this exhibition together.
1 Infinite Regress
Exploring the poetic cycle of existence through discarded objects suspended beneath layers of wax. It speaks to the interconnectedness of all things and the idea that everything eventually returns to nothing — echoing cosmic entropy and the truth that we are all made of star stuff.

2 Under the Full Moon
Under the Full Moon is a meditation on the cycle of life and decay. A dandelion rises from root to seed, its wisps drifting away under the golden glow of the moon, while below, an animal skull sprouts fungi, transforming death into new life. Together, they weave a quiet narrative of transience, resilience, and the continual return of all things to the earth.

Cosmos, Once a Year, and Best By; form a contemplative triptych exploring the fleeting beauty of cut flowers. Each still life captures bouquets in various stages — from vibrant bloom to delicate decay — inviting us to find quiet wonder in their fragile textures. These works speak to the transient nature of flowers, often celebrated once and quickly discarded, reminding us that impermanence holds its own gentle grace.

6 Mother Nature
Looking up into the twisting form of this tree, you catch the suggestion of a woman’s figure in the curve of the trunk and the reach of the branches. She is both shelter and strength, a reminder of nature’s quiet guardianship and fierce resilience. This work invites you to pause and see the living presence within the forest, to recognise the feminine spirit woven through leaf, bark, and sky, and to remember that the earth, like a mother, holds us even when we forget to notice.

7 Are Roses Red?
Are Roses Red? plays with the familiar nursery rhyme, inviting us to question what we take for granted about beauty and tradition. This bouquet of roses, shown in varying states of life and decay, suggests that even as they wilt and fade, their delicate textures and shifting forms hold a deeper, unexpected allure. Beyond the cliché of "roses are red," this work celebrates the quiet poetry found in impermanence

Various Vessels
These started as an experiment to see if the Encaustic wax would stick to glass, turns out it does, brilliantly. Some of these bottles have additional bits of garden objects imbedded. The Wire vessels are a combination of paper Mache (recycled from unwanted documents in the office) covered in various colours of wax and burnt shellac.
19 Breakthrough
Breakthrough depicts a skeleton hand piercing through a discarded canvas, delicately holding a sundew flower. This gesture symbolizes the moment of psychological breakthrough — the struggle of emerging from inner darkness to grasp something fragile and hopeful. The flower becomes a tender emblem of renewal and the possibility that even from what is cast aside, growth and light can arise.

20,21, 22,23 Plantae, Protista, Animalia, Fungi
This tetralogy explores the kingdoms of life on Earth (Fungi, Plantae, Animalia, and Protista). The series celebrates the intricate interdependence that connects all living things, reminding us that beneath our differences lies a shared, vital pulse. And for the keen observers: yes, one of these kingdoms doesn’t quite match the others — artistic license and the joy of creative interpretation.

24 Moria
In Crete there stands in olive tree that is said to be 3000 years old.
There is a story in Greece that Athena planted an olive tree on the Acropolis. This tree (although it was destroyed a number of times through history) keeps being replanted from the original stock.
This tree is called the Moria or the original tree.
Now imagine if that tree had lasted for 3000 years, what it would’ve seen! The rise and fall of civilisations the pain, suffering and joy of millions of individuals. All of these experiences make up the DNA of the Moria. Now look closer at the ground the tree is Gowing from and the base of the tree, can you see the history being absorbed by the roots and into the tree?

38 Plural Pleura
Plural Pleura explores the breath of life and the fragile spaces that hold it. Within the cross-section of a chest, lungs and heart open to reveal a tree and honeycomb growing from within, reminding us that breath and life are deeply connected to the living world around us. The honeycomb, built cell by cell, becomes a symbol of community and resilience, while the bees, tireless and essential, echo the pulse of the heart itself. As the lungs mirror the branching forest, so too does the hive reflect the interconnectedness needed to sustain life. This work invites us to consider the delicate balance between the human body and the natural world, and the role of even the smallest creatures in the breath we take each day
